GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS

According to Connecticut General Statutes sections 10-221a: “Commencing with classes graduating in 2020 no local or regional board of study shall permit any student to graduate from high school who has not satisfactorily completed a minimum of 25 credits.” Graduates are required to complete the following courses in order to receive a diploma from MidState Christian Academy.

Various electives will be offered each year. Students may sign up for electives during the first week of school. All elective grades will be recorded on student’s transcript unless course is dropped. Electives must be dropped by the second week of school.

Graduation Requirements for all CT residents according to CT General Statutes 10-221a

No fewer than 25 credits

  • 9 credits in humanities
    • 4 credits in Grammar & Composition (all required)
    • 3 credits in social studies: U.S. History, World History, Government, and economics (all required)
    • 1 credit in fines arts: Speech, drama, choir, hand chimes, Art 1 & 2, and stage crew (choose two)
    • 1 credit humanities elective: Geography and Bible (required)
  • 8 credits in STEM
    • 4 credits of mathematics: Algebra I, Algebra II, Geometry, Business Math (required)
    • 3 credits of science: Physical/life science, biology, chemistry (required)
    • 1 credit in technology, science, math elective: Videography, keyboarding, physics, pre-calculus,yearbook 1 & 2 (choose at least one 1-credit class or two ½ credit classes).
  • 3 ½ credits in career and life skills
    • 1 credit in P.E. (two years of ½ credit each year or two sports throughout high school at ½ credit each).
    • ½ credit in Health class (usually taught same year as Geography)
  • 2 credits in life skills:
    • 1 credit community service (required) and a choice of 1 credit in career and life skills elective (see below)
  • 1 credit for senior capstone/demonstration project
    • Career and Life Skills Electives: Leadership & Development, Creative Writing, Debate, EASL, shop and internships
  • 2 credits in world language

  • 2 credits of Spanish (required)

  • 1 credit for senior capstone/demonstration project
    • Taken during senior year under guidance of administration
  • 1 ½ extra electives
    • Modern Fiction, Philosophy, and Religion (or choose an elective from one of the above options from Career or STEM)
